I like to think that my mom invented the idea of making fun flavored rice crispy treats. Let’s just say when I was young back(30ish years ago) in the day for our lunches my mom would make rice crispy treats. She would add in different flavors of cereal and it was just the coolest thing in the world & no one else had that in their lunch.
It’s been a long time since I’ve made Rice Krispy treats so I figured, let’s make The Ultimate St. Patrick’s Day Rice Krispy Treats. There is definitely a couple of kids in my house that love Lucky charms so it’s gonna be a double win!
Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons of butter
- 1 (16-ounce) package of marshmallows (about 8 cups of mini marshmallows)
- 3 cups of crispy rice cereal
- 3 cups Lucky Charms Cereal
- 1 jar Fluff

Equipment
- Large microwave safe bowl
- heatproof spatula
- 9 x9 inch baking dish (greased or lined with parchment paper)
Time To Bake
I’m drooling thinking about making these treats, so let’s get started. Gather all of your ingredients.
- Melt the Butter & Marshmallows
- Place the butter & marshmallows in a microwave proof large bowl.
- Microwave for 40 seconds, remove & stir. Microwave for another 30 seconds or until butter & marshmallows are melted, stir until mixed.
- Stir in Cereal
- Immediately pour in the crispy rice cereal & Lucky Charms.
- Use a spatula to gently fold the cereal into the marshmallow mixture until evenly coated.
- Press into the Pan
- Transfer the mixture into a greased or parchment-lined 9 x 9-inch baking dish.
- Take 1/2 the mixture & Lightly press the mixture into a thin even layer.
PRO TIP: USE THE PAPER FROM THE BUTTER TO PRESS DOWN THE MIX & AVOID A STICKY MESS! - Now your are going to add a layer of fluff , spreading it over the first layer of cereal mix.
- Use the other half of the cereal mix on top of the fluff pressing it down.
- Let Them Set
- Allow the rice crispy treats to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or until firm.
- You can speed this up by placing them in the fridge for 10–15 minutes, but they’re best at room temp.
- Slice & Serve
- Once cooled, cut into squares or bars.
- Enjoy right away or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2–3 days.
I did have a little extra cereal mix, which I just added to another pan. You may or may not have extras, if you feel you need to sneak a taste, that wouldn’t be the end of the world, trust me!

Fun Variations
If it’s not St. Patricks Day & you want to make some other variations of the treat you could simply add a different cereal than Lucky Charms. I am personally a fan of Fruity Pebbles. Or you could try adding 6 cups of rice cereal & some of these add ons.
- Chocolate Drizzle: Melt chocolate chips and drizzle over the top.
- Peanut Butter Swirl: Stir a few tablespoons of peanut butter into the melted marshmallows.
- Add Mix-Ins: Fold in mini chocolate chips, candy pieces, or colorful sprinkles.
If you have any luck you’ll catch a leprechaun with this Ultimate St Patrick’s Day Treat! Don’t forget to wear your green.
